Evening at the Eastern Windbreak

This painting just seemed to really fall into place for me. It was created with a combination of value sketches done on location and photographs, and represents a small patch of Kansas ground just east of Coronado Heights outside Lindsborg, Kansas. But of course it is not really about that particular place. It is a meditation on the duality of a relatively mundane landscape (it was midwinter when I made the sketches and took the photos) and a dynamic sky. It is also a testament to just how absolutely moving even the most average of winter evenings  can be. Next time you're out and about, take a moment to notice the light, and the way it dances across the surfaces of a landscape, or a building, or whatever your gaze lies upon.
